SO, WHAT DO YA DO FOR A LIVING??

Just wondering what ya'll do when you're not wrenching on your Fords. I work at Marshall Distributing in Cass City, MI. We sell parts for rec. vehicles like snowmobiles, dirt bikes, ATV's, personal watercraft, and street bikes. We sell DG, Vance & Hines, Dunlop, K&N, Gmax, FLY, stuff like that. I'm in charge of the packing dept. I order the supplies and package the parts for delivery. Ooowww. Exciting huh? hee hee. So, what do YOU do?

I've been on Worher's Comp. since March '01, but technically, I'm a mechanic (I'm a "gearman") for brand "X". n: That's how I know they're junk! I wish I was kidding but, I'm not. I wouldn't even buy one at (the REAL) dealer invoice! I probably should have, though. I could have sold it for a profit!

I retired from the Navy in 2000 with a total of 26 years of service. I now am the Director of Security for a major DoD/Civilian Aviation and Aerospace contractor, and regularly spend 2-3 weeks of each month traveling to one of the over 300 company sites around the world. One of my great job perks is my own Corporate jet and pilot-no waiting at the airport for me!!

I retired from the following Rank/Rate or MOS:

AWCM(Seal)

Now y'all know how I can afford my toys!!

I'll be honest!! You, birdman93, are the main reason I even asked the question!! YOU ARE THE MAN!!!! But seriously, you sound like a great guy who obviously earned what ya have and where you're at in life. Congrats. Usually people in your position aren't so down to earth. As Garth Brooks would say, "It's good to have friends in low places." hee hee

That's because I started at the bottom of the lader and climbed my way up-I have never, EVER, forgotten the people who I served or worked with, and who helped me get where I am today.

Something that a lot of people don't understand about the SEALs is why do they put the volunteers through so much hell, after what they have already gone through in Basic. BUD/S is designed to take groups of 8 individuals, and turn them into a TEAM.

All of us in the Teams are brothers, and when one is in trouble, or grieves for a loved one lost, or has anything in his life that he cannot handle, he knows that the rest of us are ther for him, even if we didn't serve with that particular person. I have tried to carry that into my civilian life, and let me tell you that it works anywhere!

My life for 26 years was just too intense for me to NOT laugh at it now, and be able to enjoy people. Of the 26 years, I spent 15 in the Middle East-my PERSONAL opinion is let them fight it out amongst themselves and quit interfering-we'll never be able to understand those people entirely.

Although, if I was still in, and I ran across Hussein, or binLaden, I wouldn't hesitate one bit to bust a VERY large cap in their direction-I carried a Barrett Light .50 on a regular basis, and could reach out and touch someone out to about 1500 meters!::

So what do I do for a living??? I'm a turf beautification tech. Ok, I cut grass at a golf course. But that sounds better. I've been doing it for 2 years and it's ok. Not to good money but it is a job. Something to do till I figure out what I want to do with my life. I'm 20 and have had more jobs than I can remember.

Right On Mr. Birdman! I have wished many times that I had the drive as a young man, to serve in the military. I was too busy partying and running with women, to let something like that get in the way. I sure could have used the disipline and respect for others that the military teaches young people. I have a lot of respect for the men and women who have served our great country. It sounds like the Navy has been good to you! I quit H.S., and have spent the last 20+ years working dead end jobs, mostly construction. I've been back in school for two years now, and have gotten all my prerequisites in order to go into the ADN/RN program at my school. I have been given a chance to get the education that I should have years ago. Currently, I work part time at construction (love the work, but I want out of the mud!), and go to school (jr. college) four nights a week. I start nursing school in the fall, and was one of 14, out of 32 people choose to attend. Man, I'm stoked! Anyway, you guys keep me in your prayers, because I've got a tough two years ahead of me. I was impressed with your description of "brotherhood" Birdman. I understand how you feel about your "people". I have a few friends whom I feel the same way about. It's a great feeling while fishing wilderness areas, to know that my brothers are there if I get into a bind. I wish all the young dudes here well with their upcoming careers, and would encourage them to stay in school and get that education. Also, for the older guys like myself, I would like to encourage you to follow your dreams. It's kind of tough starting back to school, but as an older dude, you'll be more motivated and focused. For the first time in my life, I actually LIKE going to school. Heck, if I can pull the next two years off, I'll be an RN. Who would have thunk it?!?
Take care guys and remain cool. Thanks again Birdman, for your words of wisdom. PEACE. Darby

I'm a machinist and run mostly CNC machines. Been with the company for 25 years but have been laid off for the last 8 months. Only 5 more years to go and I'm out of there.

I spent 25 years in construction. Started in sales and estimating right out of college (BS Bus Admn) for a small residential/comercial builder in my home town. Over seven years, did a lot of project management and finished as VP and general manager doing up to $2 mil projects in 1984.

Got burned out, and decided to specialize in estimating, and worked for two large architectural/engineering firms until 2001. Have estimated projects to $30 mil including museums, jails, corporate headquarters, pharmaceutical plant projects, environmental cleanup, and telecom facilities. Last year due to health I took an early retirement.

Really enjoyed my work, and there is a shortage of expeerienced estimators across the country. Highly recommend it to a young person looking for a career who is willing to put in the effort to start small and grow into the skills.

I worked at Target at one time. No offence to anyone but organization of that company and their training program is crap.

As a 19 year old who still lives with his parents I work at Home Depot. I am very overpaid and I am constantly tested and trained on everything from retail to everything needed to build a house. Since I am 19 I figure I can start out young, I get paid more than some men who raise families off of their earnings and all of mine gets saved. I am going to school to be a computer networking specialist and after school will get my MCSE A+ yadda yadda (so much for mod money)

If my company goes under I will have the experience and know how to be a painter, electrician, house framer, roofer, brick layer, i will be able to get a job at any millwork company in the country, landscaper, and I could even start my own building company or appraise or go into computers. and, being surrounded by managers (friends family etc.) and being trained to manage in retail i have good managment skills (if it werent for school i would be one)

I tried to join the military and they called me and came over and what not but once they found out I had asthma it was all over.

The way I see it there are a few things Americans will always need that can make the thinkers of the country rich..... everyone needs military, health care, food, cars, and homes.

Somehow I fell into homes. I dont know why but I just like learning about how all this stuff works.

Right now I am a little guy. If I was not in school I would be a middle man and get paid like .25 cents more an hour which is a joke. So when I get out of school I will make my move. Im thinking maybe head of security at a vegas casino?
