A lock will only keep an honest person honest. That is why I have several backup systems for both when I am home and when I am not home, LOL You really don't even need to bump a lock to get in. A good solid boot heel and a 200 pound ass behind it will open most doors if you really want to get in.

Lock Bumping is not quite as easy as they make it out to be. You have to have the right key (ever notice how different key manufacturers have different guide rails? ), then you have to know how much to file the key down.

If lock bumping was so easy, lockpick sets would not be necessary. Yet, most locksmiths use.. you ready for this?... Lockpicks!

yeah its not as easy as they show, but mostly because its hard to make the key just right. however there is a thing called google and i searched just for fun a while back and found place that sells precut keys for lock bumping. You can get a set of the 5 most common locks in north america and that will work for about 90% of the locks here. Or you can get a set of 11 and it will cover almost every deadbolt lock plus most padlocks.
Notice how I said north america. It seems that most of our locks are cheap locks and why we have such a problem here. They have kits out there that retrofit your current locks to prevent lock bumping just by changing the lock cylinders out. Also there are a lot of new locks out there that stop bumping.

So the moral of the story is, if you have a lot of expensive stuff that you want to be kept safe or you are afraid for your safety, don't spend $20 on a lock, shell out the $100 or dont even put one at all. Because if a theif wants to get in, he is going to get in. Just dont make it easy for them.
