| I'm kind of in the middle here.
Ghost, I don't know how long you've been driving, but this is coming from someone who's barely got a year under their belt.
Kids make mistakes. Yeah yeah yeah, we're all told to follow the speedlimit and to never ever race someone on the street. All that did was make me curious and want to try it out. One day I did, only went to 80mph, but I did and guess what? I didn't hurt anyone. So, I did it again, and again and again, and still didn't hurt anyone. Experience is learning they say, well my experience (along with many kids like me) is going fast on the streets and living to tell the tale.
Then one day I was doing over 100mph on a backroad. I had NEVER seen anyone on this road before, at least not while I was driving on it. Well, this time someone pulled out infront of me. I locked the brakes up, and managed to veer my car around them in a cloud of smoke. Heart pounding, palms sweating, gasping for breath, I realized "well that was fucking stupid of me!" Haven't done it since.
Experience is everything. Ever since I've experienced the above incident, I have a grasp on just why speeding and street racing is so dangerous. This "grasp" makes the difference between telling people that I'll run them on the street, and "let's take it to the track." Most drivers with more experience don't remember where I'm coming from, so I figured I'd remind everyone.
Judging by the charges, this was this kids first "experience" with why street racing is dangerous. He killed two innocent people, and left a seven year old without parents. Should he pay for it, absofuckinglutely. Should he have his entire life destroyed and rot in jail for it? I don't think so. He should be punished and at least be forced to remember what he did, but life in jail because one night he decided to push his gas pedal to the floor? Cmon now. Although I think this Bonker's guy is a little above and beyond, I personally think he's got a point. |
