A nice find in the Cascades

Last week I drove up close to the Crater Lake park to look at a 64 F-100 a guy was asking $250 for. It was close to 90 miles one way. The truck was very rough and I told the man it was just too far and I would end up with too much into the hauler. He asked if I was interested in a crank?
Ended up that he brought out 3 Y-block cranks. One was a 312! Weighted down the Honda with all three for 2 $20 bills. I couldnt believe it, as the 2-3 year search for a 312 crank had all but been given up.
So the crank turned out to be a 0/10, and is now in the grinders having its mains turned down to fit one of my 292 blocks, for a nice 317 cu in. Next year the search will be on for something affordable to put the 317 into. Maybe a '55 Club Sedan.
Then what the heck, enter into the La Carrera Pan Americana, also know as Great Mexican Road Race. It would be a lifetime experience!

Re: A nice find in the Cascades

OK, I know I was talking to myself when initiating the thread but my god! I figured at least the drop of La Carrera Americana might spark some inquiry. I mean come on! If you, that is you, even as few as YOU are look at this site, why? You dont post, or offer anything.
La Carrera Americana starts at the Guatemala border and ends 7 days later in Nuevo Laredo, Texas. ONly cars pre 1965, and going back to 1950 I think, can enter. All cars of the period are allowed and show. Everything from a 1964 Cobra to 1950 Healy. Total lenght is something like 2000 miles.
