| Re: What is the fastest you have been in a Ford? My highly modified 55 Ford 2 dr business coupe would run 14 flat @ just a tick over 100 mph 1/4 miles back in 63-64. With the 4.88 gearing top speed was probably 105-106. I was going through the traps at 7,000 RPM and the engine was redlined at 7,500. That was with a 292 cu. in. Y-block punched .030 over for about 302-303 cu in. Before I made it a drag only car I once had it to about 112-114-mph on the speedometer. Not sure how accurate those old speedometers were though. It had a single 4 barrel carb, headers and a mild race cam. We called them 3/4 race cams at the time. I don't remember why we called them that though. My fastest Non-Ford ride was a 1955 Studebaker President that a friend of mine and I had managed to shoehorn a Chrysler Hemi into. Had a Tenn Hwy Patrolman clock me at 136. Still had some gas pedal left, but the car was "floating" at that speed, so I didn't use it. About 6 months after that I lent the car to a friend. He decided to try that last bit of gas pedal. He lost control of the car and totaled it. He got out with only a few broken bones. Fortunately no one else was injured. We were both 19 at the time. Oh yes, fastest 2 wheel ride was on a Kawasaki Ninja. Probably about 140 or so. I was to busy hanging on to get a good look at the speedometer. I remember thinking at the time. " You idiot. What the hell are you doing. Your almost 50 and you have a family to take care of." |

| Re: What is the fastest you have been in a Ford? At 135/140 mph, you're traveling the length of 2 football fields every 3 seconds. When you're going that fast on 2 wheels, you really don't have time to be scared. Besides I was only at that speed for just a few seconds. Probably no more than 15 or 20. Although it seemed like hours at the time. Common sense (read fear factor) kicks in a lot earlier in your 50's and 60's than it does when you're in your teens and 20's Also at that point in time I had about 30 years and 250,000 plus miles riding experience on all kinds of bikes, under all kinds of riding conditions. All my senses went into overdrive and I was seeing things in slow motion. The rush was great. Even if it did only last for a little while. ![]() |
