Son of OKC bomber Nichols sentenced to prison

LAS VEGAS - A judge sentenced the son of Oklahoma City bombing co-conspirator Terry Nichols to four years in prison for assaulting two police officers and driving a stolen car.

Josh Nichols, 23, was convicted at trial in March of assault with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest, battery and possession of a stolen vehicle. Judge Joseph Bonaventure in Las Vegas ruled Wednesday Nichols must spend 19 months in prison before being considered for parole.

Nichols was charged after two Las Vegas police officers spotted him at a gasoline station Oct. 2 getting into a stolen car. One officer was dragged 20 feet by the vehicle and the other was partially inside the car as it swerved about 700 feet down a busy street.

Josh Nichols apologized Wednesday for his actions, his attorney said. Nichols also has signed an agreement to write a book about his life as Terry Nichols' son, the lawyer said.

His father is serving multiple life prison sentences for his role in the April 19, 1995, bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. The bombing killed 168 people and injured hundreds more.

Terry Nichols sent an 18-page letter to the judge asking for leniency toward his son, in which he also said he had information and physical evidence that should prompt a new federal inquiry into the bombing. He also wrote that God's intervention had prevented him from being executed.
