NASCAR will unveil plans for the debut of its "Car of Tomorrow" next week during the annual NEXTEL Cup Series Media Tour in Charlotte with the new design most likely hitting short tracks and road courses in 2007.
NASCAR vice president of communications Jim Hunter confirmed the sanctioning body has a plan to phase in the new model.
"We have a three-year plan, a two-year plan and a one-year plan, and we're going to roll it out on (Jan. 23)," Hunter said.
Indications are that short tracks and road courses will see the participation of the new car next season with intermediate tracks and two-mile plus speedways the following year.
NASCAR tested the "Car of Tomorrow" last week at Daytona International Speedway and another session is planned in the coming days.
Next week's Media Tour in Charlotte will begin on Monday, January 23rd at NASCAR's Research and Development facility where the details of the plan will be unveiled.
