360 in the rain and still won. True story.

On my way to pick up the "ol' lady" (heeheehee...she'd kill me fer sayin that) from work, I lined up with an older BMW sedan. It was wet on the street and kinda sprinklin, so I knew if I tried to race, it would mean no traction in my 92 ranger supercab XLT (4.0L). There was no traffic anywhere near, so I figured....what the hell. A little rev of the "go box" was all it took to get the driver of the BMW interested. We taunted for a minute or so (this is a very long, annoying light) as we lurched forward merely inches at a time.

When the light turned green, all hell broke loose, including my back wheels. My truck faded to the right as the BMW got the jump due to its front wheel drive. I couldnt let off the gas, though. Before I knew it, he was about 3 car lengths off from my tailgate as I had spun around. The driving courses I have had burned my response of continuing the slide in order to re-establish direction. In a New York second I was back on track, the BMW now approximatley 10 car lengths ahead.

I feathered the gas to gain some speed with minimal slipping. At the same time, He was grabbing second. The front of the BMW violently slid to the right due to the high camber in the road causing HIM to lose control. I quickly got up on his tail and we switched lanes due to the sliding mishaps. Now it was a test of the engines.....

As we neared the next light, our telepathicaly designated finishline, my truck was too much for the BMW to overtake. I passed the blue sedan. Not quickly, but what does it matter......I passed it. Just in time, too as we were just crossing the "finish line".

As I pulled into the 7-11 for a cup of coffee, he pulled in behind me. I fugured he was going to be a sore loser and attempt a fight. But I was wrong. The driver of the BMW bought me my cup of coffee and we briefly shared our thoughts of how the "race"went. We complimented eachothers driving and went about our ways.

Moral of the story? Always know when you are wrong, frequently question when you are right, but NEVER.....NEVER give up. You just might succed in more ways than one. :wavey:
