| i came upon this on the autocross forums im a member of. apparantly someone there knew the guy. he explained that he had bought new rims or some such and the company he got them from accidentally gave him the wrong nuts with it, slightly too large. apparantly they bit down enough to meet torque specs but when the car started moving they slipped right off. at least thats what i remember from what i read. either way its funny |

| That remembers me something...I nearly lost a wheel for some shit like that... the winter wheels I had on my old 323 had slightly bigger stud holes than my original wheels and with my original nut it became loose hopefully I react fast enough not to loose my wheel... 5mins ago I was going 90-100mph... would have been nice... |

| Imagine that same thing happening out on the open roads in the middle of traffic! While it make take some extreme driving to make the car lose its wheels, it is kind of scary to think how many people could be driving around with wrong bolts and nuts. |

| I remember talking to my dad after he lost the front tire off the monte. As a mechanic, you think he'd sit down and take a good look before driving a car I'd just bought from VA to Maine, but he didn't. He made it to southern maine in traffic, at 15 mph the bolts all brok (there were only 3 lugs on there and they'd come loose). He said my 70y/o grandfather started chasing the front tire down the road because he didn't want it to hit anything...I wish I woulda had a video of that one!

| Ah but then theres the awful; mechanic shops as well. My parents had a suzuki x-90 once, they took it in for new tires and when they got it back, as they were driving home, the rear wheel came off and went down the road, the brake dug the pavement and made a nice gash and the back axle bent. Couldnt afford to fix so they drove it with a messed up rear axle (they dont believe in suing people) ...come to think of it, must've been the strut mounts that bent, not the axle itself |

| all 4 came off at the same time, thats great
