| One huge tip. READ THE CONTRACT! Salesman/Finance Managers will try to hurry you through the paperwork because they want to get to the next sale. Take the time to read it carefully. They like to slip in extra charges like GAP insurance: Yes, it is a good thing and I incourage you to get it, however; It can generally be gotten from your insurance agent for 3-5 per month. The dealer will try to sell you a gap policy for 500 over the life of the loan. Generally 60-72 months. Do the math...6.94-8.33 per month at least. Check with your agent before you go. Rental vehicle policy; If the car is not under warranty, are you going to take it to the dealer to fix it? If not, don't let them sell you this. If so, go ahead and get it. Extended Warranties; Read them carefully. Many of them have deductables of 500 or 1000 per year. What is the use, if a car costs you more than 1000 out of pocket in a year, get rid of the damn thing. Basically READ the contract carefully, and use your own judgement and common sense. Most people get caught up in the excitement of getting a new car and dealers will use that against you. Remember, they are not selling you financing, they are selling you a car. They don't care if you get cought up in too big of a payment for your budget. If the bank will approve you, they will sell it to you. |
