My Daytona, again. 56k gone fishing.

Considering how dead this place has been, i thought i'd throw up some recent pics and a video of my baby. :)

I was pretty sure i had blown a head gasket a month ago when the car randomly drank 2 liters of coolant and the exhaust smelt sweet. but now it has stopped. No oil leaks, the coolant has levelled off, and still running fine besides the top end that ticks when the motor is cold. I'm hoping the new timing belt & tensioner will help.

Here she be.

I sold it to a recycling company called Vipertech for $100. The Topaz is tin cans, probably the salmon I just had.

That is a good looking Daytona! It looks really clean, the engine looks like it has never leaked oil. The only way to make it better is to throw in a 5-speed. Does the A/C still work? My Spirit's A/C worked when I got it 2 years ago but since then it lost all of its freon. Damn R-12.

Oh and the top end clatter.. that's the hydraulic lifters. They do it when the engine is cold because they have to pump up with oil. My old motor did that when it was cold or if it was low on oil. The motor I have now has brand new lifters and they don't make a sound.

The A/C is ice cold. The previous owner had it recharged before i bought it.
I had thought the ticking was the lifters. Is there any way that can be fixed? it's a big mofo annoyance because it sounds like this super clean car is ready to blow up.

Nothing Yet. I've just been replacing all the important things so I know that its running right and strong.

New Parts:

-Running Castrol Syntec 5W-30 and K&N oil filter every 5000 kms
-6 new Iridium plugs
-new PCV valve
-cleaned throttle body
-washed 15 years of gunk out of the air box and piping + new air filter and breathers.
-replaced a vacum line which smoothed out the idle

Besides those damn lifters, she purrs. When I punch it, she roars. It's a beautiful thing. I would like to have some kind of super charger set up in the future. I love the sound of that whine, thus my facination with the Kenne Bell Cobras.

Lots of custom fab work with the superchargers or turbo. That's why I'm keeping my 3.0 all motor, less shit to worry about. It hauls ass with bolt ons and a 5 speed with a good clutch. When you blow the automatic up swap in a manual.
