Putting the engine in my car

Well I finished fixing up the engine I got and now it's time to install it. I borrowed my friend's engine hoist and lifted the engine into place, now I have to bolt the mounts up and hook up the mess of wires and hoses.

I'm still working on rebuilding the other engine for it. I just got a package in the mail with some of the parts I needed for it so I'm going to make some progress on it finally.

Thanks, so far it's been going smoothly for me. I have the engine bolted in completely now and the wiring harness is connected. I just have a few things left to do like install the power steering pump, A/C compressor, and the axles. Then I can take it for a spin without the hood on for shits and giggles.

It's going good but I haven't made much progress lately. I still have to measure the rings and make sure the gap is right, then I can install the pistons and rods. From there it's pretty much bolting everything else on and it should be cake. I'm probably going to take the heads to the machine shop to have some work done as well. Custom cams would be great and so would an aluminum flywheel but I don't have the $ for those.

in all honesty, befor you go into cams and what not, id get a valve job done. its one of the BEST things you can do for an engine.

I couldnt agree more. That's what I'm going to do with the heads for my built engine. My machine shop will do it for a decent price. Maybe I could spread the build over a year so I could do all the things I want to.

Pretty much everything is done on the Spirit for now. The motor is all wired up and the hoses are connected, and it's filled with fluids. I installed the P/S pump and serp belt and added an extra ground on the strut tower. I let it idle for an hour and I adjusted the timing and idle RPM, now she's smooth as silk. Still a little loud because of a leaking exhaust manifold gasket, I'll have to fix that some other time. Tomorrow I have to get new axle nuts and install them then I can take it for a drive for the first time in 3 months. I'm so glad I can drive it again!

Great. I finished it up and drove it for 5 hours. No problems at all and it has plenty of power. It has more power than the old motor because of the cams I put in, but other than that it's pretty much the same. I still need an exhaust manifold gasket to quiet it down. I popped the hood when I got home and one of the motor mounts was completely toasted. I didn't center the engine completely and I thought it would be fine, but it was 1/2" off center so it put too much tension on the rubber mount and it shredded. Once I fix that it should be fine but it's a PITA to center the engine.

Well I moved the engine over some and it seems to have worked. I just have to get a new motor mount to see if it really worked. And the rear motor mount bracket that I had welded when I did the 5 speed conversion broke again, so it was sitting on 2 out of 4 mounts. Not good. I have to get the welds grinded off then get a new bracket and have it welded by somebody who knows how to weld good. I knew those bird shit welds wouldnt hold up for long.

Do you have some performance goals for this car or is it mostly a daily driver?
