finally getting to work on the front of the spirit

I started Monday. I know that I changed the design of the front of the car at least 5 times until I found one that I liked. I began by attempting to sand, but it was not working at all, so I had to call chad and he bought me some bumper stripper and showed me how to use it. Here are some pictures.

The damage. Chips and dents from commuting to college every day.

The bumper sheet removed. It looks kinda silly without it and with the skirts and all, lol!

The bumper stripped.

The hood part sanded.

The hood part painted.

The old and new bumper pieces.

Stripping the paint off of the grille.

Putting new mesh (gutter guard from Home Depot) behind the grille.

The sanded grille with new mesh.

And that is all that I have right now. Tomorrow I will work on it more!

Well here is some more work I got done today. I got the back of the grille primered, painted, and cleared.

I got the bumper painted and drilled, and then primered and painted the holes.

Then I got to put the grille on.

I had two detail jobs to complete today, as well as work at 4 so this is all I was able to get done. Tomorrow I work 10 to 6:30 so hopefully I can get at least a little bit more done in the morning.

allright well... not that it is all that exciting, i will continue on showing my progress. today i got the new piece riveted on and painted.

i bent and hammered it around and put rivets in here. it will soon be fiberglassed over.

here it is with the classic grey paint on.

and finally with the graffiti on.

it is nice to scroll up to the top of this thread and see the difference. i still have to get the front cleared, paint the passenger side, touch up the back, get the rims painted, patch a weak spot in the floor, and get tires (kelly navigator golds which are on backorder), all before the carlisle mopar show july 7-9. but hopefully i will keep working as well as i am now, and it will come together.

alright, now that the front is done and waiting for clear coat, i ordered my tires and they came in the other day. chad is also starting work on painting my rims. i cleaned my clear lenses with permatex plastic restorer, which worked pretty good (they weren't that dirty/scratched to begin with.) here are the pictures.

my 185/70/r14 kelly navigator golds.

my clear lenses.

Nice tires! Good job on the front of your Spirit and the lenses too, I might have to do that to mine since they are fogged over.

i called my uncle up at roxbury tire where my dad and i get most of the brakes for customers cars and i explained what i wanted. these are the brakes that he found for me. when i put my green motegi rims on, i don't want any dust like i have now! it doesn't matter now because of my hubcaps, but i wanted ceramic brakes in the first place and for some reason, i didn't get them.

well today i got the floor patched. i noticed a little bit of rust under the car below the pedals a few months ago and i decided that when the weather got nice, i would patch it before it got worse. well, it ended up being more than i thought (big surprise there lol) but i got it fixed up. i think most of the damage is from when my cousin was driving the car and he took it fishing all the time.

just a quick coat of rust tough primer.

i cut and measured the patch, and dad helped me put it in. then we sealed around the brake line with that black rtv stuff.

tomorrow we should be able to get it up on the lift to spray undercoating underneath.

i know all too well what thats like, im in the middle of welding a rusted out bimmer back together.. been working on it for the last two months when i have had the time, and i got about only a quarter of it welded... ohhh how i hate rust... but im impressed at your patching method. would probably save me alot of work, too bad it's not legal out here.... damn brittish laws

My floor looks like that. I'm going to copy your idea but go one step further by cutting the rust out.

hi everybody. well, the laptop is still not working properly, so i finally decided to get all the pictures off of the camera using my mom's computer, and thru there, send them to the packard bell.

now it is no secret that i have never been happy with the passenger side of the spirit. it has played host to 4 designs so far.
1. all 9 members of slipknot
2. corey, otep, shavo from soad, and b dez from coal chamber
3. mopar written in graffiti letters
4. 4 portraits of corey without his mask

I have not been happy with any of these, even though everyone has told me that they have looked nice. well this side of the car has been grey since january, and it is finally time to fix it up.

But this time, instead of just light-sanding and painting over 4 layers of designs (ugh!) i decided to work hard and strip all the layers off and start over. here are the pictures. it took me a week because i had a few daylight shifts at the grocery store to work and i couldn't spend every day at the garage.

the side grey and primered where some dents were fiberglassed smooth:

i began sanding with the DA but it was not working very well at all:

so i decided to use some bumper stripper that i had left over from the front:

two and a half cans later, i was able to start sanding again, only this time, by hand:

after hand sanding all day today, i moved the car outside and used the air hose to clean all the dust off. i went inside the bay and vacuumed and swept up everything, then moved the car back inside. i wiped it down and then sprayed 2 half-hour apart coats of krylon rust tough primer.

tomorrow i can spray the grey paint and then begin my next design. i have ran the idea by various people, and they all have really liked this idea. elizabeth montgomery has always been my hero, i have admired her for years. she doesn't go with heavy metal, but she could go with the evil spirit thing (since most people know her from her most famous role in bewitched). here are the pictures i have selected to use.

lots of hard work should pay off. but i think the bewitched might throw of the theme and clash. but you never know till its done. Good luck and i wish you the best.

lol i know exactly what you mean... but the car clashes anyways

instead of limiting what i "could put on it to go with heavy metal" i decided to go with the theme of just having my favorite male celeb and favorite female celeb represented. it is simpler that way.

plus, i am going to paint liz in the same style as wayne. if a person looking at the car did not know who either person was, i would look like simply a guy on the one side and a girl on the other.

well i am back from the garage and showered and ready to share my progress for today. i don't have any "in progress" pictures of the wayne side, so i thought i would make sure to get some of this side. here it is with two nice coats of krylon classic grey:

first elizabeth started:

her face done:

the first elizabeth done and the second one started:

left side of her hair and some detail:

starting her hand:

more of her hair and her hand:

the second elizabeth done:

and here is both of them done:

i want to look at my other pictures of her in that nightgown thing so i can continue it down onto the skirts more. i have a few other pictures as well as the episode she wore it in to reference from. that is all i got done today, tomorrow i will hopefully get one more done before i have to go to work at 12. as always, thank you for looking :)

hello again everybody. i just wanted to post what i got done today before i went to work. first of all, i finished the second picture by extending it down to the bottom of the skirt:

next i started the third liz:

i took a few in progress pictures of this one:

after this one, i got carried away painting and i forgot to take pictures for a time:

see what i mean lol there is a lot more now:

here it is almost done, the only thing i want to do is fix the top right of her hair a bit:

i also was able to start on the last liz:

i accidentally made her chin a little too curved so i will fix that tomorrow:

and here is a standing-back picture of the progress so far:

tomorrow i work 2 to 7 so i should be able to get the last liz and the graffiti done. that would be marvelous!
