Got another car

I picked her up Friday. My friend was going to have it towed to the junkyard but I asked him if I could take it off his hands. All it needed to get it running was a battery and alternator. And to be driveable it needs a clutch slave cylinder and tires. It needs other little things like light bulbs and fluids but it is in pretty good shape. It has the 2.5/5 speed with an astounding 90hp/130tq, but with the cars great aerodynamics it can get 35MPG+. And it will have no problem breaking the rear tires loose and sliding around corners :D Oh and one more thing - I got it for FREE! :hbang:

here are the pics:

I'm going to get 195/70/14 tires for the rear and 185/70/14 for the front and mount them on the Pontiac rims. I have the sail panels that go behind the doors, I just have to install them. This is going to be my beater while I finish rebuilding my Spirit's engine :D

I threw on the replacement tires. White lettered fat Coopers on the rear and skinny tires on the front. I also got it running today :D Threw on the new alternator, battery cables, battery and belt and she started right up. It idled high for a couple minutes while it warmed up then it kicked right down to 700 RPMs. I found an exhaust leak on the manifold that I'm going to have to fix, it's pretty damn loud. All I have to do to make it road worthy now is to have a new bleeder fitting brazed onto the clutch slave cylinder and bleed the hydraulics.

Weren't those prone to engine fires?

I know there are shit-tons of possibilities with those though. I'm thinking Ferrari F-40 kit car conversion. LOL

Yeah the earlier years were because of oil leaks or something, but they fixed that quick. I'm not planning anything outrageous with this yet. At least not until I have my Spirit running, then I can park this car and do what I want with it. Right now I just want it driveable and fairly reliable.

Is there a stereo in your pontiac? From the picture it looks like someone ripped it out. Good luck with getting it to run!

I had it running the second day I actually owned the car :D My buddy had it for a year and didn't do crap with it. I called him up after I got it running and he said "Already!?" lmao... here's a video of it:

There is not stereo in it, and the factory connectors were chopped off. I hate it when people do that, damn morons! I'm just going to find a factory GM radio, maybe a CD player out of a caddy or something.

Thanks that sounds good. I already have the GM radio wiring diagram, and I'm going to throw in a factory deck once I get the other stuff sorted out.

I drove it for the first time last night and it ran great. The CEL came on because the O2 sensor broke off, but I have since repalced that and no more trouble codes. I tried starting it up again this morning and it just cranked and cranked. I checked all the plugs, wires, distributor and coil - all were good. So I had somebody crank the motor while I looked at the injector and it had a super weak fuel spray. I'm going to change the factory 96,000 mile fuel filter tomorrow and hopefully that will solve the problem. If it doesn't I'll need to check the fuel pump although it seems totally fine. It primes like it's supposed to and it operates while cranking. So hopefully the filter is just clogged from driving it for the first time in 3 years. The air filter caught some super weird stuff too, it looked like a snake burrow with little hatched eggs in it. Weird!
Okay, I'm done rambling!

:D lol I REALLY enjoyed it today. I changed the fuel filter in a feeble attempt to figure out why it wasn't getting fuel. After that didn't work I brought out the big guns. I jacked the car up a good 3 feet in the rear and set it on jack stands, then soaked all the bolts holding the fuel tank up with liquid wrench. Then I dropped the tank, dragged it out from under the car, took out the fuel pump, and found just what I was suspecting:

Yep. That little weak foam rubber line connects the fuel pump housing to the steel fuel lines leading out of the tank. I replaced that puny thing with 3/8" FI hose and two clamps to hold it down. Then I lifted the tank back up, hooked all the lines up and installed all new rubber hoses. I hooked the battery back up and let the fuel pump prime and wouldn't you know it, the car started right up. It runs better then it ever has since I've had it, since I also installed an O2 sensor where it was previously missing.

Next thing I have to do is replace the front calipers, since they are both seized. Advance Auto wants $20 each for rebuilt units.

Well I've been doing stuff and what not to it. I went to the junkyard and pulled the front calipers off an 84 Fiero and bought them. I cleaned them up and the bleeder screws broke off both of them when I tried cracking them loose.. So I went back to Advance and they no longer have the $20 calipers in stock. I'm going to have to save more money to buy the $40 "loaded" calipers that come with new pads and everything all ready to install. After that it will be good to drive again. I really want to get this done!

Well, I got to drive it again the other night. I fixed more brake lines so it actually stopped when i hit the pedal. I got to the gas station and put in $10, which got me half a tank from 1/8. Then when I tried leaving I noticed the clutch pedal was rock solid and it was stuck disengaged. DAMMIT! So I had to walk all the way to my house at 2AM to grab my dad's van so I could tow it. I hooked it up and tied the steering wheel and pulled it into a parking lot 1/2 mile from my house. On the way there it decided to veer to the right. I just said fuck it and let the fucker slam right into a pole. The diagnosis was a broken clutch plate. I later learned it was a $40 part held on with 3 bolts, I thought I would have to drop the trans to replace it. I junked it the next day and made $130, almost half of whan I spent on it. I took all the parts that I put on it and I'm selling them on ebay and returning them to the store. Hopefully I can break even or maybe make a profit from this. I only got to drive it three times, I was constantly fixing it. I still like GM's though, but not as much as my Mopar.

Nope not really but I put a lot of elbow grease into it. Spilled some blood too from those stupid rusty brake lines. I think my jaw is locking up now :afraid:
I'm setting my sights on my Spirit now. I found an old 3.0L engine in the back of a minivan where my friend bought his car from, I have to find the guy and ask him if I could have it cheap. Then my car will be running until I finish the engine rebuild.
