Blew my motor

Well I dont want to get into how or why I did it but I will say that it involved over 7,000 RPM's. My motor now has a GNARLY rod knock with 126,000 on the clock. Not a big deal to me though since I was planning on swapping in a freshened up junkyard motor with 10:1 compression and upgraded cams anyway. Here's the video:

Yikes. sorry to see that man. makes me feel real great about purchasing a car with the same motor lol. Once you rip out the old motor, if you have a free evening rip it apart, I'd like to see the shrapnel inside.

Yep I was planning on tearing it down once I get the new motor in. These motors are pretty damn strong, the reason it blew is because I made it go past 7,000 rpms and pin the tach needle. The rev limit is 6200.

The motor grunts, then whines then wails then makes a horrifying crunch, snap, or klang. then at the same time as your thinking, oh shit oh shit, your head hits the steering wheel.

lol, yeah it was on purpose.. The front wheels screeched for a second and the motor SCREAMED like all hell broke loose. Then 30 seconds later it started knocking. I looked under it today and the front motor mount bracket is a little tweaked too. Oh and I drained the oil and it was 2 quarts low so that probably didnt help things haha.

exactly :crafty: I was planning on dropping in a beefed up rebuild motor but the sooner the better I guess! I'm going to put in a low mileage junkyard motor and keep it running while I rebuild the one I blew. If I tried to go into reverse it would just grind :D
another video

I started tearing it down. The #1 rod cap came off and the rod smashed into the crank. All the other pistons and rods are fine though. I found a bolt in the oil pan and when I took off the main bearing cap the rod cap fell out. I think that if I just replace this one piston and rod it would run but it would be cheaper and probably better in the long run to drop in another 3.0 with low miles. The main bearings and crank had some scoring on them too probably from the metal chunks mixing around in there. Tomorrow I'm going to pull the heads and start removing the motor. I took some pics.

Funny thing is, about this time last year I blew the automatic transmission. lmao.. Maybe I should take it easy eh? where's the fun in that though. I wouldn't have blown the motor if I didn't do it purposely. Now I have an excuse to build one up though.

yeah i might rebuild it or just return it as a core for $25. I took off the intake manifold, valve covers and the front head today, tomorrow I have to find an engine hoist and get it out, then I can lower my car back to the ground until I buy a motor. I have to fix my neighbor's toyota too, his axle blew and he needs it done soon.

I went to the junkyard today. They have a couple Mitsubishi Diamantes, they have the same motor as my car basically, except it has higher compression pistons and better cams with longer durations. There is also a low mileage V6 acclaim that was hit in the rear and I'm going to pull the motor from that and beef it up with the Diamante parts. Should give a nice increase in power :D I want an aluminum flywheel and underdrive pulley too but I can't afford it so those are going to have to wait. I'm pretty excited about this. It's a super low budget motor build, the only brand new things going into it are gaskets, rings and bearings.
