| no, putting the little metal pins in is when you stud your tires. i had studded winter tires on the back of the valiant when i was driving it in the winter one year. i think studs give you better traction in ice, the little metal tips dig in. unfortunately they are pretty loud on bare pavement and around here, they have to be taken off by (i think) April.
