Devastated

This past weekend the Topaz has been in the garage of a guy my dad works with, he fixes cars on the side. I'm getting new struts in the back, new drums, and new shoes. Then all 4 wheel bearings cleaned and repacked. Coming to around $400 bucks labour included. I hope to getting her back tomorrow, but he called me today with news I knew I would eventually hear, but tried not to think about it.
"I'm suggesting you only drive this car for one more winter, and get rid of it. She's gorgious on the outside, but the rust factor is unbelevable underneath. It took me 10 minutes to find a place where I could put the floor jack that would support the car. Even now, I dont think you should do any hard driving."

I'm still finding it hard to beleve, but judging by his 800 HP Camaro, he knows cars. So now my stereo plans are a no go. Only regular maintanence from now on. I'm saving my money like mad now, the only problem is that christmas is coming and I'm gonna end up blowing a ton of it on family and girlfriend. After that I'm putting in more hours at work, and just gonna save. Hopefully I can still get a decent buck for the paz once i do sell her for parts. The powertrain is solid, The HSC is coming up on 106,000 kms (66,000 miles) and the tranny was rebiult 20,000 kms ago. The interior is mint, no stains rips or tears, and not one crack in the dash. So ya you get the idea. A while ago my cousin told me he was thinking of selling is Integra. Getting that car would be the greatest. (99-00 or so, silver, black tint, 5spd) and I know he babies it.

I know most of you dont beleive me, but there is nothing in the world compared to driving this car. The car truly runs beautifully, but cuz it has a carberator it usually sputters and coughs on the 1st start. but then fires right up. Of course it sounds like a beast cuz its idling cold, sitting at 2000 RPM and things are rattling and what not. She was built before the daytime running light laws were enforced, so the lights don't come on automatically, i have to turn them on. Then its like Bing! headlights, taillights are on, gauges light up, my deck powers up and the whole interior is filled with color from the blue LCD face plate. I then turn the heat on, the car warms up real fast, and I can't help but think. Yep, this is my beast.

This place is still my favourite car community, I know if any of you heard the same news about your car as I have mine, you would feel the same.

:dejected:

Stay Cool.

That does suck any time you gotta get rid of a car you like.

Either way, good luck finding a good replacement, and hopefully its not a topaz :D

dude, i'm really very sorry to hear this news. it sucks like woah. i know what you go thru, people hackin on your topaz. people don't do it much to me about the spirit, but i know there are people out there that think spirits are piles of shit. they don't know what my car has survived, the beating that it took for 4 years.

like i said before, people think that just because a car is "boxy" and "slow", it is a piece of crap. <--bullshit.

what matters is, is that you like the car and you feel excellent behind the wheel. i really hope you get a car that you like to replace the topaz. good luck buddy.

wow that really does suck. but you know, you still have some time with it, enjoy it while you got it for this winter. in the spring get yourself something newer and different. maybe completely different type of car like the integra or something. im sure you will be just as happy with something else, once you get used to something else.

it is mighty respectable that you love your car that much.
Don't fret over your loss..... you will learn to love your new car (when the time Comes) just as much.

That does suck that you've got to give up something you enjoy though. Like others said though, once you get a new car you like, you'll soon get over it.

I remember my first car.... a 92 Mazda 323, lovely car, just like you, it was pretty hot on the outside but beneath... Someday I was going to do my front brakes on it, when I tried to lift it with the jack.... well you can imagine, the jack hasn't lift the car! it went thru it!! some days after that I got some issues with my braking lines, they all blowed while I was cruising downtown with my g/f, I was supposed to take a detour to KrispyKream, wich I did anyway (who cares, it has a big bumper, doesn't need brakes!! ) so the day after that, I purchased a cheap 94 323 wich had some issues that my first one didnt had, to I riped off my 92 to get a good 94, It last me like 10 months, did 45000kms with it, was still running very good, no probls at all, until I blew my tranny (with my old habit of shifting w/o clutch, I blewed all synchros.... so I ended up by changing the tranny and sold it to one of my friend... and I ended with the CrownVic... the mazda last like 6 other months my friend blewed the second tranny, same synchro issues..!!

I still miss those car they were fun to drive (not as my vic but still)!

this was a nice winter beater!

So, don't worry, you wont forget it, that's the essential!

Ah, don't worry son, you'll get over it.

And I hope you don't drive it till it dies, because according to your mechanic, you'll be riding on the asphalt when she does.

Man that sucks.. My car is the same way. Looks cherry on the outside but there is a 12" rust hole in the floor that I had to patch. I hate rust, stupid northeast winters and road salt kill cars.
