| US Army F 350 COMBAT TRUCK!! Check out this article that I copied from our company website.
F-350 COMBATT Truck
COMBATT stands for Commercially Based Tactical Truck. The idea is to use an existing truck like the F-350 and convert it into something the Army can use today. While SmarTruck is strictly a concept car, COMBATT trucks are a more realistic and quicker answer to supplement the Humvee in active duty. Partnering with a company like Ford to produce such a vehicle reduces the Army's design and development costs, reduces the Army's cost of stocking spares by using commercial distribution channels, and gives the Army a continuous supply of fresh vehicles and technology with minimal investment.
Take night vision as an example. The Army's cheapest vehicle night vision system currently costs around $10,000. But Ford can produce a less expensive one a larger economy of scale and share that technology with the Army. Assuming the partnership grows, Ford could get more customers for its trucks, and the Army could get a cheaper night vision system. The Army and Ford share the cost to research and design night vision and many other projects. Tax-payers benefit, too, because the Army isn't spending millions on developing something that's already available.
To save even more money, the Army may start leasing vehicles instead of buying them. The Army could lease an F-350 from Ford, convert it to Army specs, put it in duty for 3 to 4 years, and then resell it to logging companies, rural firefighters, foreign countries that don't have modern roads, and others.
Further operations and support costs will be saved because the Army will not have to purchase repair manuals or train mechanics. If you need a part, an Army soldier could conceivably run into a local Ford dealer and get one. There will be little driving training, too, because most soldiers will already be familiar with driving a Ford truck. COMBATT trucks aren't currently in use, but could be in a few years.
These are just a few features the NAC has already put on an F-350 to convert it to COMBATT readiness:
Dana Hydra-lok differentials
Central Tire Inflation System
Run-flat tire inserts
Variable damping shock absorbers
A collision warning system
Night vision
A computerized flat-panel display to control the new systems |
