| New Gauge faces on but acting screwy? Help? ![]() Installation went perfectly no problems. These faces did not require needles to be removed, they just slide over the needles and the center piece. This went fine and they move freely. The problem happened after work tonight. It was about 50 degrees so the truck was cold. When it started I noticed the tach was jerky as engine revved. Also the speedo was sluggish. The temp gauge was slow also, and the oil pressure gauge was not moving at all. After about 10 minutes the oil pressure gauge started moving to its normal spot about midway on the gauge and the temp gauge finally reached its normal spot also midway. The tach and speedo where working smoothly. When I got home I shut off truck and restarted and all was fine. This problem seems to only happen when the truck has sat for a while and got cold. Any ideas???:werd: |

| nope i have no idea whats wrong since u did'nt have to remove the needles. sounds funny to me and i would'nt worry about it if it only happens when cold

| Seems to me...needle rubbing on gauge face. When things get warmed up it is ok.When cold not(ie. rubbing). That's what I think. When I did my gauges, couldn't get speedo right. I had to drive on freeway and use mile markers to calibrate speedo.....not fun while driving! Not easy pulling needle off and putting back on at 60 mph. I've since found I am within 2 mph, close enough for me. L8r |

| I agree with the rubbing, if you take them off and the problem still exhist then you know something is wrong with the cluster. By the way they look great

| I got it fixed! The hub of the needles were rubbing! When I taped the outside edges of the gauge faces down this caused the center of the gauge face to rise just a little, then when it was cold I guess it was enough to rub the hub of the needles. When it warmed up the faced must have relaxed and the problem wasnt as noticeable. I raised the faces up and put double stick tape on the bottom of the faces around the center areas, then retaped the edges and problem appears to be gone. I will find out tonight after work. I found a double stick tape made by scotch that you can use on photographs, it allows for you to lift the face and re set it if you didnt get it straight. Now I think I may have a constant velocity joint going out on the front of my truck. While I was driving slow with the window down and the radio off I heard a funny mid range squeaking noise from the front end area. Stepping on the brakes did not change the noise thinking a brake pad might be dragging. Guess I might put the truck up on four jack stands, put it in 4x4 and let it run that way and check for the noise. I hate to take it to the dealer unless I can give him an idea of what i'm hearing. It's a strange noise almost like dry rubber rubbing against dry rubber. |

| well one time someone i think tried to steal my lugs but got caught so they left one side off a little and the tire slipped everynow and then and made a rubbing sound then a thud but if yours are just a little loose maybe just a rubbing sound it was all i could think of , since you thought a break disc loose sound

| I went out at lunch and had somebody drive my truck while I walked along side and the sound is like a whimpering sound. It sounds like a bad inside brake pad, but you would think when the brake is applied it would go away? I checked the lugs and they were tight. Oh well I will put the truck up on four jack stands tomorrow and take off the left front tire and put it in 4 wheel and let her idle. I should be able to find the problem, I hope. |

| I took my truck back to the dealer and left it for them to figure it out, its still under warranty. Told them if they could not hear the noise, call me and I would go there and take the mechanic out and show him. They gave me a rental, nice rental. It is a 2002 Dakota 4 dr, 4x4 with the V8, time to go off road!! |

| Got my Ranger back from the dealer. The noise was from dry inner hub bearing seals. They said the factory puts them together dry and sometimes they make that strange rubbing noise. They took the hubs apart and packed the seals with grease. Also found out that the bearings are non-serviceable bearings. So down the road if I have bearing problems I will have to buy the complete hub assy.....or maybe just go ahead and buy a new truck! Yeah, that's the ticket, a new truck! |
