Silver Faced Gauges

I need some help. I want to put silver faced guage covers on my 2001 Ranger. One problem, my needles are white. It would be almost impossible to see the needles during the day, night time no problem. Any ideas?
I called a junk yard about buying a dash pod from an explorer just for the orange needles. Thsy want $75.00. I called Ford about a dash pod from another truck and they said only the Ranger will fit. The tremor has silver with orange but Ford said it will not interchange. Does any one know where I might pick up some orange needles? HELP:puzzled:

Yes I could paint them but then you could not see them at night because the needles are lit up at night.

well i was thinkin and this may be a stupid idea but you could get some thin tape like width thin thats colored ive seen it here and there, and wrap the needles in a pattern or something, or maybe just paint a black line or some color down the middle of the needle so you could see it in the day but it still glows at night

Im not sure I understand your idea with the tape because it would block the light at night, but your idea of a thin strip on the needles may work. The ebay auction is over that I wanted to buy them from but I will have to think about that strip. Thanks!

no problem man what i meant with the tape is thin line arount the needle with it leaving the glowin part at night but it would be in lines instead of solid cause the tape would run around the needle

Ahh, makes sense now. By the way, I am changing the license plates on my Ranger. They are A BIG TOY , they were on an expedition I had before. I am changing to A TOY 4ME. I think that fits this truck better. What do you think?

I used to have a Mint 72 Vette and I had A TOY 4ME on that and I got a lot of smiles. My wife said she thought I should go back to my old plate. I called BMV today and they are holding it for me. I think I will call them tomorrow and tell them I will take it.

Instead of buying the pod, cant you just take the needles from any car? I changed mine out and the needles just pop right off and you need to remove them to add the new guages...

The needles could be painted, if you use candy colors. The light
will shine through candy paints. Taillights are painted to match this
way. The needle idea sounds to good to be true! j/k Makes sense to
get needles at a dealership. Hope it is easier to do gauges in your truck
than mine. I just did platinum ones in a F150 and it was a pain in the
a$$ !! The headlight switch had to be removed to get to the gauges(it
doesn't come off the way the directions say). The gauge and needle
part was easy!

I called the dealer and the needles are not sold alone, they only sell the complete pod.
Justin, you mentioned needles from other vehicles. They need to be a Ranger with a tach in order to get the same length. I would imagine the guage pod needs to look the same.
Waldo, you mentioned a wrecked Ranger, Rangers had two colors of needles, White or Orange. If that one has orange find out what he wants for the needles If the dash pod looks like the one in my 01 Ranger I would be really interested in them. Email me if you need to scuba1954@peoplepc.com...thanks guys

Scuba, as far as i know and please correct me here, but the guage pods from the 2000-2001 are the same correct? (of coarse for the same trans and engine). My needles are black. Well anyways it was just a suggestion, Maybe you could attempt it? Idk... Check this link for some aftermarket needles.

Also just thought of this, but a magic marker should do the trick. The ink would be see through and washable would allow you to clean it if you ever change your mind. Goodluck.

Waldo, thats ok, I still appreciate your checking. Let me know when you find something out.
Justin, My needles are exactly as you described. I don't know if the F-150 needles will work. I would think the stem size would be the same the only thing would be the length of the needles.

P.S. Justin, did you get my How To Project via email today?

Jasfrmn, you mentioned painting my needles. I was looking at the How to projects and you posted a project for indiglo guage faces in a 98 ranger. I was looking at those last two photos and you have White needles!!! Has it been a problem for you to see the needles against the silver guage face in the daytime? If you had to do over would you put them on again?
