| Brand new fuel pump = dead. Last august I put a brand new fuel pump in my truck. It was a carter pump that I got from advance auto and I paid too damned much for it at $71. I installed it along with a new strainer, and changed the fuel filter. The truck ran two times. I back it out of the garage and swept up, then pulled it back inside. Since then it has been under construction and hasn't run. I tried to start it yesterday and it ran for about one minute then stalled. I tried to restart it but nothing. Checked fuel pressure at the rail and there was nothing. I checked the fuses, relay, and even the fuel pump shutoff switch. All were working fine. I pulled the line off at the filter and turned the key and sure enough there was no flow... Zero. Zippo. Nada. Squat. Here I go again. They are not that easy to change either... If you drop the plastic tank it swells and changes shape and is a bugger to get back in. The easiest way is to remove the bed bolts from the drivers side, losen the ones of passenger side, then jack the bed up to get at the top of the tank. What a pain in the ass that I am honed into because carter made a piece of sh*t pump. ![]() |

| prob. need to get that old gas out of your truck. Todays gas only has a shelf life of like 6 mos. after that it starts changing to something like varnish it will clog every thing up. Prob. what happened to your fuel pump.If vehicle is going to sit more than few months use product called stable.Hope this helps in the future.

| Beast, that would make me two times. ![]() I did treat the gas with Stabile brand fuel stabilizer this time. The time before that the truck sat with about an eigth of a tank in it for better than a year. I drained the tank, and flushed out the lines with methanol (muahahahahaha), then dumped five gallons in after I changed the pump. I let it idle in the garage for about 30 minutes after that. A few days later I fired it up and let it run for a while. Then I backed it out of the garage, blazed the tires down the street, then pulled it back into the driveway and let it run while I cleaned out the garage. I am certain that fresh gas that through the entire system, and the fuel screen and fuel filter was changed when the pump was. I added the Stabile in October and the truck started and ran fine. After that I pulled the engine for the rebuild and it has just now gone back in. Sometime between October and now the pump has died without ever being turned on. |
