k iv got a 69 ford swb, and building a pretty beefy 460 to go in it, wondering how i would go about ditching those stock drum brakes and would it be ok to run it down the track once ina a while with air bags?

I don't think the bags will be a problem.

I'm sure there is a drum brake to disc brake conversion. Or do you just want to ditch the brakes :)

There are conversions out there for sure. Go for it and post pics when you are done.

Re: new to fords, couple questions

If you're going to be running a "beefy 460" I'd suggest you get under the truck and take some measurements.
Then go look for a "beefy" rear end with disc brakes.
Perhaps out of a late model F150, maybe a "Lightning" model or something like that.
You could go the conversion route, but you'll still have a rear end designed for a lot less horsepower.
You'll just have to do some homework and see what fits, or comes close.
You might have to cut off the mounting brackets and weld on new ones that will make it fit/work.
You can find most of the info on the web. Just do some Google,Ask, etc searches.
Good luck.

Re: new to fords, couple questions

If your looking for a cheap front disk brake swap go with the complete front suspension out of a 73-79. Grab the power booster and brake line block also if you can find a complete truck someone is parting out.. Just use the complete I beams, springs and all. Don't try to knock the king pins out just for the disk brake spindlels. The whole suspension will bolt right in and in fact I am doing the same swap on my 71 now. If you can find a 73-79 FE or 460 powered truck then you would get the bigblock springs that you would need for your 460.
