I don't know if it was ever originally put on trucks....I've only known of them on Lincs, LTDs & T-birds.

Taken from Hotrod mag:

The 9-3/8 Ford axle is a hybrid version that belongs in its own category because of a number of oddball features that limit its usefulness to hot rodders. It originally appeared in the ’66 Lincoln Continental to cope with its high-torque 462 engine and 5,300-pound curb weight. Though equipped with rugged 31-spline axles, overall, the unit is too wide for most popular swaps. Couple that with the unavailability of low gears (3.50:1 was the lowest cog for passenger car use) and scarce rebuild parts, and the lure of the 9-3/8 quickly pales. On the other hand, we scored a 9-3/8 with 3.25:1 gears and Traction-Lok out of a ’69 429 Thunderbird for $85 and called it a steal. Primary identification of the 9-3/8 center section is the curved rib at the two o’clock position (arrow). Installing this center section in a 9-inch housing requires two small clearance notches for ring gear clearance.

Dana rears look like 9 3/8......danas are in alot of the trucks

Don't know if that helps but, there ya go! lol

Thank you very much, 46yblock, SCrew

9 3/8 F-100 rear shown in my 1968 Ford truck shop manual is removable carrier like 9 inch, with WEY-A or WEY-B tag, 3.25 or 3.50 ratio. From what you and other forums say 9 3/8 car rear has rear cover. My formula for hot car is big cubes in small car, toploader, highway gears for MPG. My formula for hot F-100 is huge cubes, 4 on floor, mid range gears. 9 3/8 F-100 rear sounds like good choice for 1953-56 F-100.

9 3/8 gear ratios ?

Someone on Y-blocksforever forum mentioned 2.80 ratio 9 3/8 rear. 1968 Ford truck shop manual lists 3.25 and 3.50 ratio 9 3/8 rears. Has anyone heard of a 9 3/8 rear with a ratio between 2.80 and 3.25 ? Thanks for all the info SCrew.
