bodywork questions

hey guys,

Here is a question for you body work guys. I am trying to rebuild the driverside of my 94 ranger ext cab 2wd (4.0L, 5spd man with some bolt ons)
Anyway I found a 94 ranger reg cab short bed for much cheaper then the parts would cost me individually. Is it worth it to buy the whole truck and take the parts I need? I am talking about a hinge pillar (center post), driver side door, bed panel, rocker panel and front fender. But would I run into problems lining this stuff up since it is used?

Also would it be better to just take the whole bed off the truck and replace it then just the driver side bed panel? Thanks for your help Yall

How complete is the reg.cab ?.
If you have the room it dont hurt to have a parts truck. And that that you dont need you might be able to sell it.
Any way good luck...

The reg cab has damage to the ;assenger side of the truck, but the rest is in full working order. it has a 4 cylinder and manual tranny, but I am sure I can sell that for a few bucks to someone. Thanks for the help, I will let yall know how it goes and if I need to sell anything I will make sure yall get a list of stuff here.

The thing you got to remember when lining up body panels is patience. Sounds like your truck had a bit of impact, just remember you will need shims to help align your panels. The box would be easier to swap if the parts truck's box is better than yours.

The box is much better. I had a previous rear accident also, so my bumper is bent down and the tailgate is dented. But the part I am worried about most is the Hinge piller, and rocker panel. The floor is bent in but only slightly. If you look at the inside, you can only tell if you run your hand along the bottom near the emergency break. I have someone to do the body work, but finding the parts has been a pain and expensive because I am avoiding the cheap aftermarket crap on e bay.

What can I expect to pay to get the truck repainted? I figure if I am doing the whole driver side, I might as well do the whole thing. Maybe just a solid black or dark green, nothing fancy.

It is hard to say what you would pay to get your truck painted. Different body shops you get different rates and big differences in quality. I know around here I am so sick and tired of the BS you go through to get a vehicle painted, I am considering doing my next paint job myself.

That would explain why It is so hard to get an answer about the paint. I have posted everywhere. But I found a local guy that will do it for me, he does it on the side, but has use of the paint booth at his old job (body shop).

I will be getting the other truck next week and I will keep yall posted on the progress with before and after pics.

A couple of things I found out the hard way. Do not give them full payment for the job before it is completed. Alot of guys that do body work and painting on the side can do excellent work but can't afford to finance the work you want done. If this is the case make progress payments. This way he is not going to go broke until he finishes your truck, and keeps him motivated to keep working on it.
Good luck and keep us updated.

Turns out I will not be getting the other truck. as luck would have it, I have a friend in the body work industy. He is looking for the parts I need and siad he can get them much cheaper then I have been quoted and he will do the work and paint. I am sure he will take a bit longer but I am willing to wait. I would like to help him so I can learn a little more about my truck too, I wonder if he would let me do that... I will let yall know what happens

Ok, I ended up getting a new (1994) truck. So the body work will not be an issue anymore. Thanks for the help though.
