Engine Prices?

Anyone know where I can go to find prices for engines? I'm lookin' for the price of the new Ranger 4.0l, but prices on other engines would be cool too. If you already know how much I could get the new 4.0l for that would be great as well. Peace and be careful in the snow

I know the local salvage yards are selling the 4.0 V6 for between $3000-$4500 Canadian. I priced one for my brother inlaws explorer which is still sitting in front of my shop. If it isn't reposessed soon I'm afraid some parts may go missing.

That sounds good and all but what about the horsepower in those <500 engines? Since the new 4.0l has 207 I was hoping to get one of those but I dunno. Guess thats why I'm asking

$5OO That is retarded. Man I think we are getting ripped off here more and more all the time. I know performance shops around here are really bad for marking up their products but even the salvage yards! This is why I never buy stuff locally. Pretty bad when I can order parts south of the boarder, pay my shipping and duty and still get them cheaper. The 4-6 weeks waiting kind of licks though. I'm gonna stop ranting now because if I don't I may never stop.

$500 is for an OHV. To go with an OHC engine will cost a bunch more. But not just in engine dollars. You will have to concern yourself with the electronic side of things as well. Since the ECU's are calibrated to the engine, and as far as I can tell everything from 99 forward (OHV and OHC) uses a smart key system you have to have 2 sets of original keys and steering column transponder to even have a fighting chance.

My thinking is that If you want the 200+HP of the OHC then you need a complete donor vehicle, keys and all. Or a 97-98 OHV with ECU and a Paxton would produce the desired result or better for about the same $. If emissions are not an issue then go for a 5.0L cheaper, better power, economy and lots of resources available.

Not trying to be a pessimist, just a realist in this case. I replaced the 98 OHC in my Ranger with and OHC from a 99 Explorer in Jan and I am still fighting the gremlins.

Good luck.
