| This is cool, but the supercharger only brings the power of the 3.0l to around 238 HP at the flywheel. That's basically a 4.0l. I would love the extra power, however I think I will probably just buy a new truck (with 4.0l) before installing a s/c. That is just more cost effective.

| Try more like 5700. At least that's about the rev limit on my 2003 3.0l. Edge ninja is right, 154 hp (at the flywheel) stock. If the whipple gives 55% increase to PEAK hp, that'll be around 238 HP at the flywheel. That is also peak horsepower, not the average output. The 4.0l has 207 hp per edmunds.com. But it does have 238 lbs of torque. The 3.0l has more horsepower when S/C, but obviously won't have as much low end grunt. Now, with the s/c costing at least 3000 bucks, it just doesn't make financial sense. Maybe if you have a paid off truck, and can only afford 3-4 grand in the next few years. I am not trying to squash the topic on the 3.0l S/C, but I know for me just buying a 4.0l makes more sense. If you're still determined to supercharge, then why not get a 4.0l and supercharge that motor? Also, a 2000 3.0l with flowmasters on it will probably make about 160 HP at the flywheel. The 2000 3.0l made an advertised 150 hp, and a 10 HP gain is being generous for just flowmaster exhaust. Plus you probably have added enough audio & video equipment to negate any horsepower gain, due to added weight.

| That would be cool as hell just to have that nice whine of a s/c granted probably not as cost effective as buying a crate 4.0 but it's the fact of it's so rare...like for show purposes.

| This s/c talk brings up a couple questions for me...When I graduate I'm gettin a 4.0l. With it being 207hp, how much hp would probably have with a s/c? Also, how much hp would it have with a turbo? I like s/c for the whine and the constant hp at the wheels, but i like turbos for the cheaper price and the blow-off sound. I do realize turbos have more maintaince and junk though which kinda sucks. Anyway, just hit with the hp for the turbo and s/c for the 4.0l, and also an average price for each BTW, how much for the 207hp 4.0l? Last edited by Tiger12; 01-28-2004 at 06:56 PM. |

| Re: 3.0 Supercharger Kit Jason mine is the same way dude. I feel your pain I have a 3.0 v6 ranger with 137,000 miles. I just wrecked my car today and i need to find some more power for this ranger. i have the bigger tires i believe the 17's and it takes alot from a 3.0 too make them move. I am only getting like 10-12 mpg. Any suggestions? What can i do to mod to make my 3.0 ranger stronger without hurting the mileage anymore than i have too. I am just a mess right now.... please help me out |
