need tranny help

my auto tranny was reving up high and then kicking back down while driving, it didnt happen often, it would only happen while I was accellerating fast, so I changed the filter and all the fluid, but before I had read the chilton book I put dexron 3 in instead of the dexron 2, nothing happened for a while, the engine and tranny worked great, and then while at a stop my tranny just stopped transering power to the wheels, so I stopped and tried again, the tranny worked again after a 2 minute break, end of the problem, or so I thought. today while driving on the highway I was going 65 then it happened again, the tranny was revving at the proper rpm but no power to the wheels, pulled over and then manually shifted from first through all the gears to the proper speed, it worked great, I have no idea what is going on, is it my vacume lines, my torque converter, the atf?any help is much needed, I am taking a somewhat lengthy road trip in one month so I need help.

Yes, definitely sounds like you need to get your tranny looked at quickly! A local transmission shop should be able to answer your problems.

Also on a sidenote, I've had good luck with talking to Autozone(or Napa whatever is in your area) and describe the problems. They can usually give you a good idea of what is wrong.

For the cheap solution, check those vacuum lines first.
