ranger won't start

Ok yesterday I went out shoppin and when I came back to the truck to go home it would not start. I just turn the key and hear one click that seems like it comes from the radio. The battery is fine already tried to get jumped didn't work. The other thing that is weird is my radio works but no sound comes out of the speakers. I had to get it towed to a sunoco where a friend is a mechanic he thinks it is the starter or something along the lines of the starter. I'm hopin its just something stupid thats easy to fix. So what do you guys think??

if the radio works and the battery is good then the next route would be the alternator i think.

Its funny that your stereo work yet you hear no sound.....If you have an amp then it could be because the bat was so low it couldnt turn the amp on....But you should at least hear the starter solenoid click.......Have you done any work on it lately....Could you have moved some wires around that maybe got to close to something hot an burnt threw em......Not sure on this one but if jump starting didnt work then i dono............

If it is a 5 spd check the clutch interlock make sure its not fkd up an not allowing you to start her...........hope i helped some ?

BTW ive never worked on a 4L so the solenoid might be on the starter (prob is) .....but i would try hitting the starter with a hammer.....lightly (at first) to see if it just sticking

if you still have battery power, I would say it's the starter solenoid. CHeap to buy, easy to replace.

I concur with Berad

A few years ago I bought a junkyard alternator, an Autozone starter and an Autozone battery only to find that I had a bad ground.

LESSON LEARNED!!!

well I am still without my ranger my friend who is a mechanic doesn't know what it is. So there gonna send it to the dealer and see if they can figure it out. It has something to do with the anti theft device. Well for now I'm drivin the 95 Tarus SHO darn that car is pretty fast but i still miss the truck.
