83 Ranger ?

Ok...I'm still a bit confused.......
The Ranger appeared in mid 1982 as a 1983 model year. This was the last year for the Courier as the Ranger replaced it. The Rangers bed was 85-inches long and 53-inches wide, and it was rated for as much as 1,500-pounds carrying capacity. Available in both 2 and 4 wheel drive versions, the base Ranger had the 2-liter inline 4-cylinder engine rated at 72 hp. A 4-speed manual transmission was standard. Optional were a 2.3-liter diesel 4-cylinder rated at 59 hp. Five speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmissions were available.

Ok....my truck is an 83 Ranger purchased in May of 82.......according to the sticker under the hood it IS a 2.3...gas engine......It also has a 4 speed.......whats the deal?:puzzled:

i guess.......my 2.3 uses hoses for a 2.0...water pump for a 2.3.....im sure they are similar....maybe even the same part but its just a bit confusing and frustrating at times at the parts store.

In 83 Ford made a Ranger S model that was standard with a 2.0L 4 speed. XL, XLT models had the option of a 2.3L.

If you have a long box XL the dealer that ordered it placed the order with the 2.3L option.

Hope this helps.

The guy's at O'Reillys only go by their computer. If it is not in the computer they are lost.

Try telling them you want a TPS for a 1960 F-100 with a EFI5.0L

They are lost!!!!!!!!!

Just read your last post here Ranger396...hehe...cant sleep...sigh...

I'm glad I'm not the only one that has troubles with Oreilys.

I just hate it when they try to tell me I'm wrong about the parts I need. Like I wouldn't know.....like I'm not the one thats been under the damn thing for hours....hehe...ok,ok I'll stop bitchin' now...I could go on n on.....

Oh,and I bet you're right....I bet it's all kinds of fun to get those parts for your F-100....I couldn't even get parts for my vehicles that are stock without almost having to argue with them...

My 83 Ranger has gone through numerous iterations

Originally, mine was a 2.0L carbed I4 4x4 (has there ever been a more underpowered 4-wheeler?)

Then I gave it a 2.3L EFI upgrade (talk about mad-power, YO!) I stripped a donor 87 XLT and installed all the interior trim, dash, and split-bench seat. MAN, I LOVED that truck! Until I spun a bearing.

Now it has a 5.0L engine, T5 tranny, bucket seats, Explorer center console, and most of the Mustang LX options that came with the donor car. It has a new paint job, diamond-plate bed rails and tailgate cover, fender flares, tilt steering, cruise control....

I just have to get it out of my garage now!
(can't seem to get the alternator to work )

AND YOU THINK YOU HAVE PROBLEMS?
Try getting parts for a truck like mine...
"Mr Partsman, I need a fuel pump for an '83 Ranger 4x4"

1991 Ranger (going to get rid of the 2.3 and put in a 4.0 (4.0 engine on stand right now!))
1996 Mustang Convertible (stock 3.8 right now but I have a '95 super coupe engine on a second stand right now!)
1997 Thunderbird 4.6L LX (going to put the body effects from the 95 SC to "sporty" 'er up a bit)

You'll like this one. I had a '72 Mercury Montego ( Merc.'s version of the Torino) and asked the guys at NAPA for a fuel pump and they said the car never existed. told them for 15 minutes the car did exist. then went home and drove it back and showed them.
