Coolant Leak

i was driving home today when i noticed a screeching noise from my engine.. at first i thought my serp belt was going out which was odd cause i just replaced it... when i got home i noticed my engine was splashed with coolant... not cool.. so i checked the engine temp and it was normal but my resevoir was empty and it was leaking profusely for a minute out of the bottom...

i filled it with water and ran it for a while to see if it would heat up at all but no.... just normal and the leak is no longer there :puzzled:... do you guys have any idea what this might be? the passenger side fender well (where the resevior sits) was soaked in coolant but the overflow seemed to be attached still so i am out of ideas for now...

i am going to replace the fluid and replace the thermostat (thought it might be sticking) tomorrow... maybe i will go 180* thermo...

any help would be great....thanks!

:werd: does your rad have the plastic sides? sometimes they split and squirt stuff all over the place but that is more common on GM. make sure all the hoses are firmly attached to the rad, and I mean man handle them, mine blew the upper hose right offbecause the male part of the connection broke off. but i do not know about the screaching, might have been that for some reason your temp spiked and it shot a ton of coolant to the resivour and it overflowed, hence the empty resivour when the engine took it back. check your hoses and it might be time to flush your cooling system

hmmm.... thats a good theory.... think that maybe the thermostats going out and thats whats caused the temp spike??? the thing that weirded me out the most was that everything appeared to be attached tightly... i will check in the morning... thanks
