I'm Confused

Today my Ranger decided it didn't like its factory installed lower radiator hose. It blew at one of the busiest intersection on my side of town....couldnt do it on a side street when I didnt have my 11 month old son with me!

I managed to baby it to my Dad's house where we pulled the hose off and decided that it should have been replaced long ago...

Anyways, this is where my story gets good....

When we walked into our local Oreilys I asked for a lower radiator hose for a 1983 Ford Ranger with a 2.3......we wait....he comes back with this hose that looks nothing like the remains of the one I took off my truck....he looks on his computer again and heads back into the store room.....then he comes back out and slams this hose on the counter and says..."its a 2.0 not a2.3....." well that pissed me off but to make a long story short....

the displacement sticker on the truck says 2.3........the 2.0 hose fit like a glove.....whats the deal??....my Dad said they were hesitant to sell him the truck when it was new ....they even tried to talk him into another truck on the lot that was the same colors.....do you guys think that maybe my Dad got someone elses special order truck?????......just wondering what your opinions are.......sorry this thing was so long......

When did your Dad buy the truck?

Did he buy it new or had it been customized be a previous owner?

Is it carbureated or fuel injected?

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't all of the 4-cyl carbureated Rangers 2.0L? Then when they switched to FI, the engine displacement gained .3 (heads?).

Perhaps 2.3 FI was an option in '83, I'm not sure.

In 1999 I yanked out my old 2.0L and installed a 2.3L along with all of the wiring, dash, and fuel tank from an '87 donor I got from my wrecking crew neighbor.

When I spun a rod bearing a year later, I decided to go all out and put in a 5.0L engine which was given to me by a coworker.

Try going to a parts store asking for a part for your 5L Ranger!

The truck was purchased new in May of '82(its an '83)

Itis carburated, and the spec sticker under the hood says its a 2.3.......but the 2.0 hose fit and the 2.3 hose i know just by looking at it would not have even come close....i dont know.....sigh....i give up....hehe
