MAF Sensor

Well, looks like I am going to have to get a mass air so I am wondering if anybody has a good place to get one. I haven't decided whether to go with a performance one or not. Depends on whether I have to have the computer recalibrated or not. I found a OEM part at fordpartsonline for $88.75. Anybody got any better suggestions? Thanks!!

Calibrating the computer requires you to remove the negative battery cable and let it sit for about an hour or to be safe overnight...then when you reattach everything is reset. Start the truck and idle for 5 minutes. I would go aftermarket since you have to replace anyways.

Someone correct me if im wrong.

Now that I think about it you may be right Justin. I guess that is all it would take to let the comp. relearn the system with the new settings. However, I thought that I had heard somewhere that when changing injectors or MAF some settings in the comp. had to be manually changed. Just leaving the neg. cable off sounds reasonable to me though.
I still don't want to spend $200-$300 on a MAF though. Are there any aftermarkets out there for less?? I am getting married this sat. so money is SUPER tight!!!!! ........and will be for quite some time.........

Wait till after your reception. Just think of all the wedding gift $$. Did you register at Summit or Jegs? hee hee. Maybe someone got you one instead of the usual towels and silverware!!
Seriously though, I have the old one off my SHO. It's a 55mm. I was wondering if it'd work on my 4.0L in my Ranger? What size is stock on yours? Is yours a 4.0?

LOL Why didn't you suggest Summit or Jegs sooner??? That is a really good idea!!! Maybe I can trade some of that expensive china in on some good truck parts. hahaha

Yeah mine is a 4.0L but I don't know what size the MAF is. Are you talking about the MAF itself or the diameter of the housing. I don't know the size of either one. Don't really know where I can find that either. I can try though.

Well my wife still works at the Ford store every once in a while so I was able to save about a $100 on the MAF. Got it for $79!!!!! Anyway, everthing is good now. Before the MAF went bad I was plagued by the marbling, rattling of the lower intake manifold as most 4.0L are. When the MAF went bad it just got much much worse. Well I am happy to say that now with the new MAF there is NO rattle or marble to be heard. Made a helluva difference. Just thought I would let ya'll know. Later.

i was told that when recalibrating you should disconnect the batter and then turn the headlights on to drain all of the power that might still be in the wires. i did it before and it worked but i dont know if it made a difference

Since I put an OEM sensor back on there I didn't see the need to recalibrate and have to reset my radio presets and such. With my code puller I can clear all the stored memory codes so I don't have to disconnect the battery. One of the best things I ever invested in. Shows a whole new light on how the truck is running.
