Sales down

DO I hear right that sales of SUV's in the US are plummetting? A mate of mine in Boston said that the used lots are full of them now?

Re: Sales down

For 2008, all full and mid sized truck sales have declined, except for the Ford Ranger and Toyota Tundra. The Tundra sales are basically flat since March, but up compared to Jan/Feb '07 when they were still selling the 1st Gen Tundra. The Nissan Titan sales are down something like 42% compared to '07, while the Ford Focus sales are up 88% compared to '07.

The increase in fuel prices have sent people out looking for smaller more economical vehicles. Prices are almost $4 per gallon for gasoline (85 octane) and over $4 a gallon for diesel. The fuel increase has also caused companies to up their prices for shipping, which has impacted food and most every basic retail product.

There was a special on the news last night stating how some local dealers are getting a couple grand more than normal for these compact vehicles due to the increased demand. Auctions are selling cars that are normally $5K for $7K now, while lots are filling up with mid & large Trucks/SUV's.

So yes it is true.

Re: Sales down

yeah the price hike is proving banaficial for the local dealers but not for the common public.People are now getting much concious about mileage of their vehicle.

Re: Sales down

Very true. I see tons of older SUV's and trucks on the used car lots, and you can get them for AMAZING prices compared to the past years. I'm sure new cars are following the same trend. Nobody wants to pay for gas, and those that do don't want to buy an SUV that will become worthless as the market falls out.

Re: Sales down

now i have seen some people who want to sell their suv's at much lower prices just because they want to get rid of these cars.

This is the funny part about many people that I've seen. Many are trading in their paid off SUV's at below blue book value for brand new compact sedans. Most aren't realizing they now have a monthly car payment ($200+ per month) and most likely increased insurance due to being a new vehicle. All they see though is the mpgs. So now their getting better mpgs, but paying more $ per month when all factors are included. Depending on how long they keep that car, it may pay off in the long run, but will have a lot higher costs for the first few years.

To each their own though.

Re: Sales down

I was thinking of buying a new SUV and suddenly I have changed my mind because of the fuel consumption and I want to go in for a smaller vehicle due to the chaotic traffic.Probably others may be thinking similarly.

Re: Sales down

well i think if you make mood to get a SUV then dont think about mpgs because SUV's have been made for those who can drive them without bothering about their pocket.
