What's your opinion of the IRS offroad? Standard dogma is that, except maybe for offroad racing, a solid axle is always better than independent suspension. With the independent suspension you lose articulation (can't keep four wheels on the ground) and ground clearance, especially as you move away from the center of the vehicle. Any prospects for swapping in a solid axle?

the main reason I own my sport-utes ('87 BII, '92 Explorer. almost hate to call them sport-utes, too truck like -- semantics.) is so I don't necesarily have to stop when the road turns ugly. It will sure be shame when I have to replace my current or future trucks with heeps or chebys because ford has turned their sport-utes into glorified station wagons.

if you look at where the blazer and trailblazer and all those are goin they are gonna all end up the same.

sorry to be so down on the whole thing. guess i'm just dissappointed to see the whole SUV market headed that direction. just have to take care of what i've got i guess. and figure out later what to get when they get beyond repair.

you are completely correct. IRS is a bitch to get to launch. just ask people with 99-01 Cobras. Even in my RX7 wheel hop is just nasty because of that stupid IRS. but man, does it feel good in the corners.
