i thought that at first but i dont think so, when i start my car the gauge reads cold to normal, but once i start driving it makes its way to the h, when it gets to the h my engine makes weird noises when i accelerate, and sometimes if i drive it long enough it will start smoking.

the thermostat and the guage are two diff. things. If the thermostat is stuck closed it will not allow water to pass into the engine. However the separate temp sensor will still be reading the temp of the block and tell you it is melting.
you may be able to tap on the housing where the rad. hose goes into the block with the engine running and see if it unsticks.

well damn, now that I come back and read my post it sounds kindof snotty. Sorry Mike I didn't mean it that way. I just don't know how much you know about engines. Not that I know a lot but I had a similar prob. in my truck couple years back. Good luck with it!!!
