Openning rear doors in Sport Trac

I have an '01 Sport Trac that I bought used. Is there a way to "fix" the rear doors so that when I have passengers in the back seat they can open the door without: (1) me unlocking the doors from the front or (2) having them manually unlocking the door? According to the dealer, that is the way the vehicle comes.

Thanks,

BTW I'm NC2k2TBird on the TBird site.

Sounds like no door actuators in the rear? or is this a child safety lockout feature?

The child safety lockout is not engaged. The doors will unlock when I hit the unlock button on the driver's side panel. Apparently, some Ford engineer in his/her wisdom decided that the passengers in the back aren't bright enough to know not to open the door unless it is stopped. I think that this might be the "norm" because I was in a Windstar yesterday and the driver had to unlock the door for me.

The owner's manual wasn't much help either. I can program the doors so that they won't lock at all when I put the Sport Trac in Drive but that isn't what I want to do.

yeah my 95 was the exact same way. whenever you put it in gear all the doors locked and all the passengers look at you like your trying to play some kidnapping scheme on them. but it doesnt do that any more. you know how i fixed it? one day they just stopped locking. bonus! so i say bag the piss out of it like i do, slamming the doors and whatnot, and eventually one day they'll stop locking/...
