Torquing the X-bracing

Anyone know the correct torque for these bolts. I am beginning to get some cowl shake. Also "bottomed out" on a speed bump at a drive entrance a couple of weeks ago. Will have that checked out at the same time.

shop manual says...

In that other forum redbird replied to the question of specified torque for X-brace bolts:

Quote:
The shop manual says 46 lb-ft for the front cross brace bolts, doesn't mention the other two cross braces.

Thanks a lot, guys. I knew it had been discussed there, but had not written it down. My car was real tight when I got it, but beginning to feel some shake in the last 1000 miles.

I had the dealer check the x-bracing today and ALL of the bolts (I think there are 12) were loose except two. It felt so much better on the way home, it was remarkable. Everyone neeeds to keep an eye on this issue as it makes the Bird handle like two different cars.

Some owners have reported on other sites that they have experienced cowl shake on their cars upon delivery. Mine just started at about 5,ooo miles and got worse until now at 6,400 miles.

They found where I bottomed out. Back set of bracing, only minor scratches. Will paint if rust starts, but I have a feeling this could happen again, so getting it refinished now would probably be a waste of time.

The Bird is healthy again.

Glad you mentioned this issue to me Chris. When I had my oil changed yesterday, I had the dealer check it our and they found all the bolts loose. I also noticed a difference in the ride after tightening.
