1956 Lincoln at my mechanic's

I dropped by Bill's today. He retired officially from wrenching but continues 3/4 time at his home garage. Inside was a really neat mostly original 1956 Lincoln he was working on. It was long with a coupe look, very similar lines to the 56 T-bird, though expanded needless to say. These pictures were the best I could get, with it being in the garage.

This car is apparently a factory custom. Different grill and many other goodies, which drove the original price far above the usual. The exhaust manifolds are stainless, exit at the rear, turn into and through the inner fenders, down, and pass back between frame and body panels.

Motor is a 368 cu in Lincoln Y-block.

Re: 1956 Lincoln at my mechanic's

I found out a some more information about this car. It is a 1956 Continental MkII Coupe. Continental and Lincoln were separate divisions at Ford, which merged later. This coupe was only produced in 1956 and 1957. Total production numbers were 2994.. The car is quite rare and a sought after collector item of car nuts.

They were completely handbuilt: body, frame, motor everything. Quality exceeded anything in the US, and at least rivalled Rolls Royce. The motors which were handbuilt and blueprinted actually put out 15-20% more hp than the same motor in a Lincoln or whatever other models it was installed, by virtue of the quality of assembly.

Sales price was $10,000, 50% higher than the same day Cadillac.

I have a stack of Sun tuneup reference charts, on every US car from 1956-1963. They are kind of neat and nostalgic, so I gave the owner of the '56 one for his garage.

Thanks for sharing....it's great to come across something like that. Cars back then really had a lot of character.

Those are cool cars. I know where there's two in New Mexico just sitting rotting away.
