The Ford GT entrant to GT3 ~PICS~

This things looks fast

The Ford GT may already be out of production, but it's just getting started on the European race circuit. Last month we told you that three Ford GTs were being raced by Matech, and after its first test at Dijon, Ford's most premium super car looks to be ready to compete against the best Europe has to offer. The Matech Ford GT posted a time of 1'20.611, finishing .185 behind the overall fastest tester, the Ascari KZ1-R. Driver Christophe Bouchut tabbed the GT as "easy to drive" and called the car "well built".

MyVideo has footage of the Ford GT in action at Dijon, and it looks quite at home at the track, sounding like the super car that it is. We hear the flames coming out of the exhaust of the GT during the practice run are in fact not the product of a Power Stroke diesel, so there is no reason to be alarmed.

Mustang FR500GT and Matech Ford GT debut at FIA GT Silverstone race

A while back we posted on the impending debut of two Fords in FIA GT3 class racing – the Ford FR500GT and Ford GT. Last weekend both cars debuted simultaneously at Silverstone in the GT3 class and raced alongside other contenders like the Jaguar XKR GT3, which also debuted that weekend, the Ferrari F430 GT and Lamborghini Gallardo. The Ford factory-backed FR500GT apparently didn't make a great showing, but the two Matech Ford GTs impressed everyone by holding their own before trailing off at the end. One of the GTs actually qualified second for the race in a field of 50 GT3 cars, but it only managed to finish 16th. The GT3 class race at Silverstone was actually won in a thrilling manner by the Kessel Racing Ferrari F430 Challenge, which held off a charge at the finish by the Berg Racing Lamborghini Gallardo, finishing just a half second ahead of its Italian foe.

I don't understand this project at all. While I'm a race fan, I think this project is a waist of money. Ford is bleeding huge amounts of red-ink.
The millions they spend on this product could be better spent on R & D. IMO.

I'd agree with that.

Ya they need to focus on the cars and trucks. Where can I even see one of these races on TV? This is a waste of money.

Alot of advancements are made at the track. Ya they need to focus on doing better with the production car.. But I dont think its a good idea to give up on stuff like this.

Re: The Ford GT entrant to GT3 ~PICS~

True some advances do come from racing. You have to admit, the cars you see on the track have very little in common with what you can buy in the showroom.
If these are privately owned/run teams that are racing Fords, fine. I read someplace that to be competitive, at this level, it costs a minimum of 11-15 MILLION dollars, per car,
and that 20 million is not uncommon.
If Ford is funding them, I think the money could be better spent someplace else.
