Manual Transmission Conversion

I have a 92 GT with a automatic transmission. I'm noticing a lot of slippage in the last 500 miles or so. Since I'm going to have to fix the tranny soon do you think it would be worth it to do a conversion to a manual trans?

I have seen a few examples of people doing this, some good and some bad. Price wise I could probably pick up most parts at a local salvage yard. So I would guesstimate it would be about 2-3k.

What are your thoughts?

hmmm. 2-3 K into a 92 mustang sounds like alot to me. If you are doing the work yourself I don't think parts are going to be that much. Could be wrong though.

What do you use the 92 for? I know in your intro thread you mentioned you have an STI (nice car btw) What kind of shape is this mustang in otherwise?

I would be doing the work myself. The 2-3k is more than it would cost for parts. I was just adding a little pillow.

I've had the car for about 8 years and bought it off my parents. It's in really good condition body wise. It has had new paint and engine rebuild in the last 2 years. I would want to use the car for autocrossing, track days, and just driving.

The STI is going to be mad at you I'll let the experts chime in on this transmission swap.

Sounds like a heck of a project. If you do it and you have a digital camera I'd love to see some pics of that. Wish I could give you some advice but that is out of my league

I'm 90% sure that I will be doing it towards the end of May. I went to the HWY 71 Salvage Yard outside Austin today and they have pretty much everything I will need. I would probably be looking at about 900-1200 with the parts from the yard. I will continue planning it. When I do it I will document everything in pictures and post up a link.
