Suicide At Ford's Marketing Headquarters

This is crazy

Posted Mar 19th 2007

Tragedy struck the Ford Motor Company on Saturday when a man jumped to his death from the 10th floor of the automaker's Regent Court Building in Dearborn. In an interview with the Detroit Free Press, company spokeswoman Sara Tatchio confirmed that an employee committed suicide and stated, "It was not work-related and he was not an executive of any kind." Police didn't release any information regarding to the identity of the individual, nor did they specify whether a suicide note was found.
Over at Renault there have been three suicides since last October due in part to high stress at work. Hopefully we're not seeing a new trend in the highly competitive automotive landscape.

I'd wager that he was just notified that he had been laid off. Most likely with a family and lots of credit card debts. Right now, it's not a very good time to be in the American auto industry. Lower labor costs overseas, drooping sales, and just plain mismanagement are killing Ford, Chevy, and Chrysler. Something is going to have to happen soon, or all three are going to be gone.

I agree with you about what might have happened. The first thing they need to do is loose this "Bold Moves" campaign. They need to look at what the imports are doing. The new Edge campaign is horrible.

I've never understood suicide. People all go thru hard times, I don't care who you are, we all have bad times. Taking your life just passes the bad to someone else, how cowardly to you have to be!?
I think we are just seeing the beginning of some real bad times for the auto cos. When it is all done there will only be a "Big 1" or "Big 2". I don't think we'll have big three anymore and it's coming soon.

Not the case here

This sad event was not due to any work related issue. Unfortunately this person had other personal problems. Why he chose that site to end his life is not known. Please pray for his family.

That is horrible. I have never understood suicide either. Times are tough for a lot of people, but he just made them tougher for his family. I hope he rests in peace.

Re: Suicide At Ford's Marketing Headquarters

That is tragic. If I worked at one of these offices I would be afraid of the next suicidal guy coming to work and taking out a bunch fo his co-workers before doing himself in.
