Nope, you are not alone What year do you have? 82 RX-7 GSL here. It's sitting under a car cover awaiting our return from the road. It needs to be about 75% restored, if I ever get started on it, that is. ,,,,98

I have 2, both are 87's. One is a GXL, the other is a project car SE. I love them both equally. :)

I drive a 1993 Ford Probe GT which is a Mazda design and I've taken the liberty of swapping the KL-03 for the Mazda J-Spec KL-ZE motor, after I threw a piston rod in the 03. I have quite a few modifications I plan to make and hopefully I can get some track time in the IDRC.

We'll see I guess.

FordRacers, what are the specs on your motor in the probe. i am slowly getting into the impo scene, and am always curious about finding out some info on the jap motors. how much more power did you get from your swap? is the motor emissions compliant? how did you go about locating that motor?

Well, There was a noticable increase in HP. The ZE J-Spec is rated at 200crank hp. There is no way in H-E Double Hockey Sticks this motor would pass emmisions. The compression ratio is A LOT higher, 10:1. Which poses F/I problems, and you have to run 90 or higher octane. The whp WITH the j-spec ECU is about 170 or so compared to the around 135 whp of the american model.

Other than those differences the two engines are identical, besides the fact one says ford and the other says mazda.

Actually there's quite a few dealers that import them directly from Japan. I'm not too worried about the emissions right now becuase the county I live in doesn't require emission testing yet.
