More Power

I have a 99 Ford ranger 3.0L V6 with the flex fuel option. Currently Im getting kinda irritated with it because when the engine is under load (going up a hill) it has nasty pings. I figured I might be able to get a head with larger valves, performance cam shaft, larger injectors, and maybe a larger fuel pump. I was wondering if this upgrade was reasonable or even duable on a flex fuel capable truck? And would I be gettin rid of the pings and gettin good horsepower for my buck?

Re: More Power

usually I try and run a 89 octane which is usuall "plus". But this weekend I sprayed a quart of water (generously) into my intake manifold while the truck was running to clean all of the carbon build up off the top of my pistons, and now no ping. But im still considering installing larger valves and all of the things i posted above, I just need to know if i will be getting my moneys worth for the HP gain.
