Engine Oil Changes

Hi,

Bought my Ranger 2007 diesel new. At interval of 1,000km, there was an inspection from Ford mechanic FOC. Next oil change is 10,000km. Thought it's next 5,000km? Recommended was Castrol at dealership.

Checked around and was recommended Mobil but the local mechanic said its every 5,000km for engine oil change.

What gives? Is it because it is the new Duratorq engine that only requires 10,000km intervals?

Rgds,

Jeff

Re: Engine Oil Changes

The old standard was 3-4K miles (5K km) That was for regular oil. If you use synthetic oil, then 6-7K mile intervals are fine.
Here's a link with some good information on the subject. Read it and decide for yourself.

Thanks.

Think they're recommending Castrol Magnatec 10W-40 or 15W-40 at 10,000km.
