| I know Ford Racing Performance Parts sells a header for a 5.0 explorer. I assume a explorer is the same as a mountaineer. I had to see what one looks like, Mercury does not have a SUV around here.

Re: Headers for 5.0 mountaineer Hey there. I registered just to answer your question. Torque Monster Headers is the way you should go. I have them on mine and they are an amazing piece of work. TorqueMonsterHeaders.com If you are looking for more information related to Ford Explorers and Mercury Mountaineers, visit ExplorerX (www.explorerx.com). Join up on the forums (it will save you some money on headers also). It is a great site. My username is the same over there. Yes, it is true ford racing makes/made a header for the explorer. It wasn't much better than stock though.

Re: Headers for 5.0 mountaineer What kind of gains can you get with headers on an Explorer. I would guess just like anything else with a complete exhaust system you might see something. But headers alone I just don't think you will see much. am I wrong?

Re: Headers for 5.0 mountaineer TM headers says that their product makes 20hp and 35-40 ft. lbs on a completely stock vehicle. More potential with other mods. I know it sounds pretty outrageous, but the factory manifolds on the explorer are complete crap. Three cylinders go into one tube down to the collector. I would say they are correct in those gains, as my Explorer hauls ass now (for an explorer). I have removed my rear cats and installed a dual in dual out magnaflow muffler. I also have a MAC intake and comp cams camshaft installed. My explorer is a 2 door sport model. You couldn't buy them with a V8 from the factory, and I wanted a V8, so I got a rolled 2000 mercury mountaineer 5.0 AWD and swapped the drivetrain in. My explorer had 4.10 gears from the factory and the mountaineer had 3.73's, so I stayed with the 4.10's and that helped my acceleration also. My dad has a 99 mountaineer 5.0 and the difference between our trucks is pretty extreme.

Re: Headers for 5.0 mountaineer Well, the dyno results speak for themselves. I know a lot of products out there advertise way more than what is realistic (such as typical cold air intake kits or dare I say the tornado fuel saver? haha), but these are true gains. I don't work for them, but everyone who has a set of these things is fully satisfied. If you want to make your explorer move the way it should, then these are the only header to choose. Ford really messed up when they designed the factory manifolds. Not a first for them though. lol
