Flashing O/D light

The O/D light on my 98 Ranger 4.0L 5R55E (5 spd auto) starts flashing after a few minutes of driving and also the torque converter will not lockup.
.
I do not have any CEL's and turing the ignition on and off resets it. Thought it might be the speed sensor but the speedo is working fine.
.
Any ideas?

I always thought that was torque conv problem....don't know for sure though. Problems like that won't throw a CEL.

A thought.....how many miles on the truck? Over 30K you should change fluid....Ford trannies are fluid sensitive. My truck developed a shake at street cruising speed, flushed all fluid, even torq conv and everything was fine...all smooth.

One big possible answer-a electrical short. Possible a grond wire, a lose wire, or a crimped wire. Just some ares to look at.

The light on my truck stopped blinking but sadly it took a whole new tranny to do it.

I am still fighting this problem.

To recap:
1) I replaced my 98 4.0 with one from a 99 Explorer.
2) The O/D light started blinking and the converter won't lock up.
3) Had the tranny rebuilt at a local shop, problem still exists.
4) Tourque converter blew up and contaminated tranny.
5) Replaced the complete tranny from converter to tail shaft, including TCC and vavle body.
6) Spent 3hrs at the Ford dealer last night to no avail.

We are all stumped, tranny shop, Ford dealer and myself.

What am I missing?

Has to be something on the engine. Since the tranny is electronic what sensors does the ECU take into account when deciding when to send a signal to the TCC solenoid to lock/unlock the converter?

It locks it for a mile or 2 and then seems to get confused, quits and starts flashing the O/D light.

I know this is probably not what you want to do but if your having problems with the torque converter locking up could you not use a kit from Painless Wiring. I have used this kit on putting 700R4s in older vehicles, and am sure they make it for the EAOD. Basically just a vacuum solenoid and a switch on your brake. This maybe a easy solution to your problem.
