Electric Fan Swap

Has anyone changed out the engine driven radiator fans with electric fans? I would like to change mine out but am concerned with possible cooling problems on a truck. Any input is greatly appreciated.

The trick is to wire it up so you can either 1. Turn if off manually inside the cab, or 2. Wire it into the thermostat/temperature sensor. The first is cheaper obviously, but the 2nd is the best way to go.

You basically want it to be on when idling, but off when you are at highway/cruising speeds. The regular air flow should be more than plenty at speeds greater than 40, so you don't want the fan to be on for it's longevity. Check summit.com or jegs.com and they should have all you need for the wiring.

What kind of vehicle are you driving?

Sorry I'm driving a 98 Ranger SuperCab XLT with a 2.5L and a 5 speed tranny. The only mods on the truck so far is a 3 inch cone filter MAF intake kit, and a superchip. I'd love to change the fans if it doesnt require any real engine work and will run cool enough during a Texas Summer :)

It shouldn't be too difficult. The major concerns would be attaching the fan, and any clearance issues with the engine. I'll send you a link to a how-to.

Cool, let us all know how it goes. This is one of the next modifications I am thinking about doing too! My 3.0l just got a cat-back system, and well, I am tired of the engine fan whirring away at high RPMs.
