Tranny trouble(bryan NO!)

Bryan...this one is NOT open to your opinions...i already got it....any how...the truck is a 93 Ranger 4x4..with the 4.0....here's the problem the transmission won't engage 4th gear...what could be reasons for this??? and could it have broken or messed up anything else???

darn. I was getting all ready to tell you everything I know about the 3-4 shift in the A4LD (wouldn't have taken more than a minute or two ). I don't know as much about manual transmissions because I haven't had problems with one (yet).
Is it only going into 4th gear that you have problems? Any other gears show problems shifting?

nope, from what i have been told it is only 4th gear that has the problem...he said the gear may be stripped..or linkage...or who the hell knows what.

i tore one of these apart before because it was STUCK in 4th gear....(could drive in N but any-other gear it would just jam) the problem with it was the bearings between the input and output shaft had seized....what you problem might be is that they are wore out.......My questions to you would be how many miles on the truck.....can you put it in 4th while the engine is off/or at idle.........4th would not be stripped..th only thing that could adversly affect ingagment of 4th that would have anything to do with the gear itself is if it has a bevel so that the shift collor wont ingage...................................Now that i think a little more about it....the top of the shifting fork may be broken....its hard for me to explain (not knowing the tech names right now)
