oil pump?

hey, I have been getting rough bumps from my engine for a while now, it almost feels as if a cylinder or two is missing, but they are all good, the coil is good, the distributer is good, I just changed the oil and tranny fluid yesterday and the problem went away for about an hour, but its back. There is none of the sounds that an about to sieze engine makes but it feels like it could, I am thinking the oil pump is going out. just wanted a second oppinion before I have to bring it into a shop and spend a crap load of money.

oh ya, it feels fine about about 55 mph. anything under that is rough.

that sounds what it might be what engine do u have in it? b/c i have a rod or lifter loose in mine and form what i hear it is prone to doing that. what i would do is take it to a shop and get them to do a inspection of it and tell u what is wrong it shouldnt cost that much maybe 50-60 bucks.

ps- it just might be the cold weather i bet if you came down here it would quit lol j/k

I got the regular 3.8, and I drove the car in much colder weather than we have had the last few weeks. its been in the 60's during the day and the high 30's at night. I was also thinking it could be water in my gas, but I have used Heat all winter, there should be no condensation in the tank or lines at this time.

if you think it is the oil pump Dont Drive it untill you put a mechanical oil pressiure gauge on it so you dont wipe out or spin a bearing.

beradtke I am going through driving withdrawls...

worst case scenario, if I were to spin a bearing(a cam shaft bearing?) I wouldnt be able to fix it with my menial knowlege of the engine and without some hefty tools? I was more worried about siezing the pistons...

ok if you sieze a pison you can always get that out and over boar the cylinder. but you spin a main your crank is now more then likely shot,or if you throw a rod thought the block bno you dont even have a core to trad in if you have to buy a remanded long block.the mechanical gauges only cost a few dollars and all you need to know other then thatis what the pressurse are supposto be inbetween.

might i ask why you think it is the oil pump has you oil pressure gauge been low getting a bottom end nock on first morning start ups lots of lift clap just wondering why?

ok, I have check all the vacume lines, they are all good and hooked up to the proper outlets or inlets, all sparks are good as are their spark wires, the ERG or is it EGR is fine and operating, the PCV is the same. but I had to preasure blast the PCV hose with compressed air to clean it out, I noticed a few months back that is had disconnected itself from the Air Box, for god only knows how long. I drove the car to the shop right across from the school I teach at and the drive went without a hitch or a bump. Maybe I just needed to clean out those hoses, but just incase they are checking fuel and oil preasures.

oh ya, Beradtke, your knowlege does really impress me, I use to work as a mechanic and we could have used someone with your knowlege of Fords...granted we were all really bad mechanics and none of use had any real experience outside of our career center at High school.

oh no you drove around with the pvc line undone not good could of ingetsed sand water snow and anything else it wanted to. do a compression test if you can to make sure you didnt damage the motor, dont mean to scare you just a thought.

my frind has a 99 ranger trailhead that the ford stealership did the first oil change on,well they checked the air filter and never replacedit motor puked at 13000 miles ford replaced it with a one that was out of a wrecked vechical.

yeah I have heard horror stories like that before. I had the oil and fuel preasure tested, fine one both counts, and they did a compression test, all cylinders were at good compression.

this is what makes me laugh, I spent all the money for a few hours of shop time to find out nothing is wrong with any of what I thought was going on, I have a tendency to think Big, get a few knocks in the engine and assume its the oil pump, as it turned out all I had to do was replace the rotor, cap and spark wires...

the rotor and cap werent even 2000 miles old and the wires showed no outward signs of being damaged, but when I changed all that, it was like a whole new car.

thanks for your help anyhow.
