oil consumption

I have a 1995 f350 with a 351 (5.8). at about 60,000 miles it started to consume oil.

I have no smoke from the exhaust and no leakage on the engine...

I have to dump a quart every 800 to 1000 miles of driving.

I am wondering if it is valves or rings. Any ideas or suggestions?

btw.. I have rebuilt several engines with no problems.

My 94 F-150 with a 5.8L did the same thing at 68,000. They put new valve seals in and it went from a quart every 750 miles to a quart low at oil change time 2500 miles

Not to say that is your problem, but it's worth checking.

not very likily but if it has a lower intake manifold leak coming from the lifter valley then this could be a cause of out consuption....dont know how but ive seen it before

If you take the oil filler cap off and cover it with there hand there should only be a little sucktion but not alot

I was told by the dealership that losing a quart every thousand miles is to be expected. Iwas told that I was to expect to lose at least a quart every 3000 mles.

In Fords specs on the engine it states that oil consumption of one quart every 1000 miles is normal.

This truck is an F-350 Crew with a manual trans.
